Action
Pharmacology: The respiratory organs provide our body with vital oxygen, which has to be taken from the air and passed into the blood circulation. In order to do this, the air we breathe is conducted into a vast finely branched system of tubes - the bronchi, and from there it passes into approximately 500 million alveoli, which have a total surface area of almost 100 m2. These air cells ensure that the blood can absorb the oxygen from the air and that it thus reaches all parts of the body.
For an optimal exchange of oxygen, it is most important that the function of the bronchi is not hindered by foreign matter, such as dust particles, for example. For this reason, our air passages have an excellent natural cleaning mechanism: they are lined with a mucous membrane and a number of cilia or tiny hairs, which have the function of automatically transporting any foreign matter which is breathed in back out. Numerous mucous glands help the cilia in their function by continually moistening the whole respiratory tract system.
For hundreds of years, many people have trusted in the healing power of wild-growing medicinal ivy for the treatment of illnesses of the respiratory tract. The handed down knowledge has been used by Engelhard Arzneimittel and further developed during years of intensive research. The result is the original of an ivy extract, which is manufactured using a special procedure and which is contained in all Prospan Syrup preparations. The pure force of medicinal ivy is thus able to be used optimally and in a modern way with Prospan Syrup.
Prospan Syrup relaxes and calms coughing. In this way, Prospan Syrup’s expectorant and spasmolytic actions combats the typical complaints of increased formation of viscous mucus, shortness of breath and irritation of the throat. Troublesome and painful coughing is calmed, but not blocked, which is important for being able to cough up the mucus and thereby allow for trouble-free deep breathing.
Prospan Syrup is free from alcohol, sugar and colouring and has a pleasant taste of cherry. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for children and adults for fighting against the complaints of illnesses.
